I have a multiplus compact 12v/2000 / Cerbo GX / and solar + Onan 3.6k genny.
One nice feature would be the ability to turn on the genny while driving (being the driver) when it’s 1000 outside. that way I could get the air going in teh back (which either we need to be plugged into shore power or genny).
Anyone connect their genny to the victron setup?
Can you still use the control inside the RV to turn it on, or are you disconnecting that and wiring it all the way to the Cerbo?
What else did you need to get for the onan to talk to the mutliplus/cerbo?
This Q probably is better suited to the DIY section. Assuming it can be safely done e.g. ventilated properly etc. it is possible if you generator can be equipped or has a remote start feature. Explore the Victron website where there is lots of good information.
Yes the generator can be connected to / controlled by the cerbo and still retain the existing remote start/stop panel and functionality.
Most onan generators use momentary start/stop switches. The cerbo uses a single dry contact open/close relay for control. You most likely would need to install a auto start controller providing an on/off ability, or use time delay relays controlled by the cerbo relay. There’s quite a bit of information available on the old forum about how to achieve this.
I am having trouble researching this topic of adding time relays to gain generator (Onan QD) control via Cerbo. The old community archive search feature appears to be dead (get same results no matter what is searched) and not finding a lot in the new community yet. If anyone has any links to help me get my head around using these time delay relays, I would greatly appreciate it. I keep seeing different ways of wiring and little explanations of why.
