Hi there!
Recently we found out that by unchecking the switch as group option in VEConfigure, we’re able to use single phase power to charge on a single quattro. After doing this we now have the situation working as expected except for the fact that there is no support for this charging on any dashboard. Not on V1 gui, not on V2 gui and not on VRM. Is this issue known? The function itself works a threat, but customers are weirded out that they cannot see what is happening. Couldn’t find anyone else pointing this out, that why this topic exists. Hopefully someone from Victron notices this and can implement a view for this…
GX devices can have issues with systems that do not have “switch as group” checked. It’s a little vague but I think the seventh bullet point at the beginning of this document is related to your issue - Parallel, split- and three-phase VE.Bus systems [Victron Energy]
Victron are aware of this behaviour but the last I heard they had no plans to change it as it’s a very niche application.
Right good spot, that document! I got the tip to do it like this from Johannes Boonstra at a Victron Professional training, but never knew what any of the potential consequences were. The link you send me indeed states this behaviour is not supported by the GX devices and therefore not properly displayed. I will tell Johannes this when I meet him at a future event Too bad they don’t have plans to support this, however niche the application seems, I think the number of people using something like this is actually greater then it seems… Thanks again for your answer, I will mark yours as the solving one.
@LucGH I am not sure of your exact use case but I have a single phase AC PV inverter on one Multiplus in a 2 multiplus split phase configuration, all within a 3 phase system.
Because of net power metering, the system works out how to charge the batteries using both Multipluses, but still maintain the grid setpoint, even though I only have AC PV on one phase. For this reason using “switch as group” works well even though at first I did not think it would work.
