Charging specs for EG4 24v v2 w/ XS1400, 100|30 and IP22 24|16 chargers

I have an EG4 24v v2 battery and the owners manual suggest the following settings for user defined charging profiles:

  1. Bulk/Absorption: 28.1V (+/- .2V)
  2. Float: 27V (+/- .2V)
  3. SOC Cutoff: 20%*
  4. Battery Charge Temperature Range: 32°F - 122°F
  5. Battery Discharge Temperature Range: -4°F - 131°F
*EG4 recommends this value be set no lower than 20% to maintain the recommended 80% depth of discharge.

My question relates the adjustable parameters in each of the chargers I own and if I should abide by the EG4 guidance or something else; Orion XS1400, MPPT 100|30, and Blue Smart 24|16. I’ve been using the above bulk, absorption, float, and temperature range settings (not sure how to apply the SOC cutoff…) but when I’m adding these into the user defined and advanced settings of my chargers, I’m seeing other settings that are optional to configure (e.g., tail current).

  1. Should I apply the EG4 charging settings to all my chargers or should there be some variance between the chargers?
  2. “Other” settings like tail current, should these be adjusted? E.g Tail current, absorption time, etc.
  3. Can charging via MPPT be done while charging via alternator or shore power? Do any settings need to be adjusted for this?

Thanks!

  1. all chargers should have the same settings where possible.
  2. Unless there is a specific need tail current, absorption time etc, should be left as is.
  3. Yes you can charge from an MPPT while charging from shore power or engine. Settings can remain the same. Sometimes shore power chargers are set to a slightly lower voltage to prioritise solar charging.
