Charge parameters for AC chargers and Inverter chargers

Hi community. My setup uses an MPPT smart solar charger and an Orion XS to charge the “house” battery in my RV.

I then have a bluesmart ip22 charger that charges my Chassis battery.

The Orion XS charges the house battery when my motor is running or when I’m plugged into a shore supply. Both batteries charged - works great.

My house battery is bespoke and uses a 3S setup thus my Absorbsion charge max voltage is 12.6V. The chassis battery is a standard Lead Acid battery.

Both the MPPT smart solar and the Orion XS allow me to set the battery parameters as I wish and I have 3 profiles created. A) 12.5V when I won’t have AC available for my trip. B) 12V which I use most of the time in good weather so as not to keep the NMC cells SOC too high and C) 11.5V if the RV is going to sit for a while.

Everything works fine but I now want to add an inverter.

My bluesmart ip22 has a minimum setting of more than my required 12.6v Absorbsion voltage ( I recall its 12.8 or 12.9).

I’m guessing the multiplus II has similar characteristics and thus I won’t be able to use it’s AC charge facility to charge my house battery.

It’s not the end of the world as the current setup charges the house battery albeit via the chassis battery and Orion XS, it’s just baffling and annoying that the AC chargers don’t give the same flexibility as the MPPT or Orion XS.

It’s annoying as both the Smart Inverter and Multiplus II 3000VA both weigh exactly the same at 19Kg (weight is an issue in my setup) and I get an AC charger for free (in weight terms) if I go for the Multiplus II but I can’t use it.

Or am I missing something?

Any suggestions gratefully received

This will require a not out of the box solution.

Not sure what you mean here - all charging parameters are adjustable the same as the other sources.

What will likely be more of an issue is the low cut off being 9.5v, which means inverting will just end sooner than you would like. And this will be an issue for both the MP2 and the Inverter.

Hi LX,

As stated. The AC chargers do allow bespoke Absorbsion parameters but they do not go as low as the MPPT or Orion XS. Both of which allow me to set an Absorbsion Voltage as low as 11v (possibly lower)

HOWEVER as stated previously my AC IP22 charger only allows a minimum Absorbsion Votltage of 12.8 even in “custom battery settings”.

If I’m doing something wrong or missing something please advise the parameters that you believe to be possible with this unit

Try adding a dummy device in Victron Connect and you’ll see what I’m saying.

I’m assuming the inverter charger will be the same

The 9.5v cutoff voltage is well within my voltage parameters

@Les I can’t find a 12volt MP2 in the connect dummy devices but I have found a Multiplus compact inverter charger that allows absorption voltage as low as 12.00volts. Does it have to be a Multiplus 2?

Hi Trevor,

I did the same and couldn’t find either device I intend to buy (12v 240v 3kva smart Inverter or multiplus ii) in the list of dummy devices.

The alternative is a 3kva smart inverter which has Bluetooth but no charger. Both weigh 19kg. I figured a spare charge facility was more useful that Bluetooth given I communicate via the Cerbo GX.

Does anyone looking at this thread have a 12v 240v 3kva multiplus II and could check the lowest custom Absorbsion Voltage allowable please.
