Cerbo GX Venus OS update - what to watch out for

I see there is an update available from 3.73 to 3.75, and it seems like quite a small update, so it’s a good opportunity to do the first Venus OS update since installing my system. Most of the “how to update” documentation I see is many years old, so I wanted to bring it up here, particularly questions about customizations and non-default settings.

  1. I have switched to the “Large” image, and have MQTT server, MODBUS TCP server, and Node-red turned on. I have 8 fairly simple node-red flows, half of them just implementing virtual switches for the cerbo dashboard. I don’t have any manually installed nodes in use. I am using the Victron “custom-control-node.”
  2. There is an active ESS configuration with schedules.
  3. No external drivers/scripts/services/etc have been manually installed.
  4. I have added ssh public keys in /home/root/.ssh

I don’t need anything covered by this update, but I want to have already gone through the process once in the event that I someday need to. Will I be safe to just click “Update” and let it go?

The things I’m concerned about are what it might revert, such as reverting back to the regular instead of “Large” image, losing my node-red config (or worse, parts of it), or having to reconfigure the VRM connection.

Hello,

Before the update you need to export all your nodered flows ans save it.

After the update, if the flows are deleted you will import saved flows back.

Victron always say : if a system is working well, don’t update it, except if you need a new fonctionnality or a patch.
