I have a 12v lithium house battery and a lead acid start battery on the sailboat. The Balmar 100A alternator is connected to the START battery. An Orion XS charges the house bank from the alternator/start battery. A solar panel Victron MPPT is attached directly to the house bank. I wanted to charge the start battery from the solar panel so added an Orion TR 18 charger from the house bank (input) to the start battery (output). I believe I have the settings correct; what should they be?
What I see is that when the solar panel comes on, the start battery does get charged from the TR, but I’m also seeing the Orion XS putting out charge. I also see 17-18 amps of current, measured by the negative shunt. The lithium house BMS is showing no charge going into the house bank. It appears to be a circular charge situation?
I’m not sure I understand what’s happening?
Thanks for your help!
