Auto Isolation Transformer Accepting incoming voltage

This boat has an auto isolation transformer installed to convert 240 to 120 when in foreign lands. Upon arrival in Mexico, the input voltage from the dock was 131 VAC. The transformer would not let any power through at all. After multiple attempts to investigate, the wet/dry setting (set up as a with on this boat) was cycled from wet to dry and back again. Voila! Shore power connected. This has been used several times. Does anyone have an idea why this would work? The switch is and was normally in the wet position to isolate the ground from shore power.

Hi, what do you mean with switching between wet and dry setting. Do you mean switching the jumper cable as per below?

Have you ever found a more sustainable solution to this problem? I am experiencing the same.
