I have done many installations for BESS under 50 kwh system.
My client is satisfied with the performance and want to apply Victron BESS on the factory. The peak load is 100 kw which I think is manageable with Quatro 15K x 9.
My concern is that the client is asking for 400 kwh battery storage. This will be my first time to use large capacity battery.
Anyone has any experience with this kind of project? Any advice is welcome and I really appreciate it.
Hi, large scale system queries should really be discussed with your distributor or supplier. The forum isn’t really meant for this, beyond design and architectural help for smaller, DIY systems.
Sure thing. There are some people here who are involved with larger systems. Some can be seen on the “show us section” and others which are showcased on the main victron and victron professional site.
Certainly big systems are not uncommon.
The principles in wiring unlimited apply.
Wiring for good current sharing (it matters more for charging and balancing than discharge current reasons) is definitely key.
Keeping short DC runs is definitely interesting on bigger banks and a nice mix of charge and dicharge sources over the bank bus bar.
What batteries are you proposing?
Hi there. We have experience with systems like this. Check out this video here for a discussion of what @lxonline referred to for balancing loads, sources, and storage across buss bars: https://youtu.be/xCZEvgtnihk?si=wxQ08nAEzUsbwUi7
I asked one of my guys to make that video to share with some of our installers in the event they are working with large systems. The video shows just three Quattro 10kVA units but the end system had 8 Quattro 10k’s, 13x MPPT 450/200, and 60x 5kWh batteries. Not quite as large as yours but the video is instructional and will hopefully help you with a similar analysis for your system.
I have a customer in Estonia with 12x Quattro 48/15000, hence 180kVA/144kW. For security reason wr use 8 Battery sets (SOPzS 4350) which give 1300kWh @DOD80 if neccesary.
The BusBars are custom made from Aluminium and withstand 6000A and NH2 fused are used.
Two 40KW windmills and two Fronius Inverter 30kW are on ACout plus 6 RS450/200 DC coupled.
Works perfect and produce more energy as the customer need. Feed-In is currently limited to 50kW unfortunately.
Only the design of the building to get the 46t of batteries with shortest cables and busbars was VERY stressy!
