Absorption state ve.bus

Hi All,

To maximise my solar self-consumption I need to use the charging state to switch loads on or off via Node-red. At the moment I am using charge amps to do this but when the battery goes into absorption the MPPT “wastes” any potential extra power available so as not to overcharge the battery, charge amps go down and my loads switch off or at least won’t switch on when they could make use of the extra power if it was made available.

I have been looking at the custom input node and under MPPT there is the measurement “/state” which shows the number 252 at the moment. Just wondering if anyone could tell me what this state is and could it be useful for my needs ?

Thanks in advance.

252 = External control
It means the unit receives a charge voltage set-point from “external world”.

Thanks for that.

Do you think this measurement could tell me when the MPPT is “throttling” ? Is there a value for that state ?

Yes, depending on what you use.
For example, on modbus, there is /MppOperationMode.
For sure there’s also something like this in solar charger’s Node-Red node.
When it’s 1, it means the MPPT is in voltage/current limited mode, i.e. throttling.

Thanks, I will give that a try.

Thanks @alexpescaru that seems to do the trick although we haven’t had much sun lately to really test it.
