500 A Shunt

Just taken delivery of a Victron BMV 712 smart, the standard 500 A shunt has a bright metallic “tab” about 2/3 rds along the lowest resister fin. It protrudes a couple of mm . It looks out of place and unlike the quality of the rest of the shunt.

Is this feature standard?

This looks odd. It does not look like the common trimming of the shunt with small cuts to make it match exactly. Did you already try the shunt with a known source to check it’s accuracy?

Thanks for your reply, yes the tag looks wrong, almost like a piece of random metal caught in the black paint.

I’ve not fitted the unit as installation on my boat is not easy so don’t know if it works correctly.

The supplier has offered to take it back and fully refund, so I think this is the route I’ll take,

Sounds like the best solution, ‘cause you’d want a good and proven one. Good luck!
