Wiring diagram/compatability

Help compatability of older multiplus and quattro and latest multiplus 2 charger inverters

All 24 volts DC twin volvo penta D7A-TA engines (2003) with alternators.

I have a multiplus 3K inverter charger(70amp) and want to connect to a Quattro 5K inverter charger (120A) with a possible addition of a latest version multiplus II 3K inverter charger

Can you send a wiring diagram if compatible also I have 1320AH victron AGM house bank with 880ah victron agm separate battery bank, 2 separate engine starter batteries Lead acid 360Ah each

3KW wind generator and 440 ah solar panels and a separate 220 ah solar panels

Can you send a wiring diagram to add all these units together

I have a separate 18KW(AC) diesel generator(2004) with a 12 volt 220AH lead acid starter battery

240 Volt AC Shore power as well

wiring diagram would be helpful

David

The community could send you 100s of schematics and none would fit your system. You need to map your system as it is built, then from there add the modifications you want to do and post that here. From there we could help you with checking if your plan is possible, and viable.

Just this alone, you cant put those units in parallel on the ACout. You can of course power them from the same DC source, but thats about it, from there on they are three seperate systems

Thanks for your help, different advice than from Victron agent, indicated backward compatibility and no problems linking all together. Many thanks David

Get clarification.

They possibly could have meant for central monitoring and battery bank sharing but not likely on AC mains as mentioned by chrigu as you can’t parallel or three phase inverters of different size and model ranges.

Also maybe check exactly what you have unless this is a typing error.

And this would be a mamoth task as while you have described what you have there is no description of how it is connected even a block diagram would be impossible to make from the oultine given.

As LX diplomatically said, seek clarification. If they tell you that you can join multiple inverter models into a single inverter group then find yourself a new Victron distributor or installer to talk to. They should also be able to offer you technical consulting and a design service that includes wiring diagrams specific to your needs. If not, find someone else :slight_smile:

Request for a wiring drawing (schematic) you say.

Out of curiosity what is 440ah & 220ah solar panels, to allow someone to gracefully design a full drawing from such description.

Hello All,
New thought from a friend use isolating transformers.
Share A/C via victron transformer isolators & Shared DC inputs but section boat to the three inverters in separate wiring circuits avoiding connection to other inverters AC output although the negatives would be shared via earth bonding system. ie 2 x 3KVa & 5Kva charger inverters and is it possible to use only one charger or all three chargers to the main house Victron DC 1320AH(6 x 220Ah) Agm battery bank or separate one to 440Ah battery bank.

Proposed 1 x 3KVa charger inverter though mains isolating transformer serving A/C Pilot house & 1 Cabin plus 1/2 galley
1 x 3KVa charger inverter though mains isolating transformer serving A/C Engine room
1 x 5KVa charger inverter though mains isolating transformer serving A/C 1/2Galley/Saloon/3 Cabins
Shore power & Generator though a separate change over switch serving all the boat though bypass in charger inverters

At present Shore power & generator(change over switch over) serve the whole boat. 1 x 3KVa serves the pilot house.

I have bought used 5Kva Quattro & 3 Kva Multiplus ordered a Multiplus 3Kva latest version charger inverter.

I dont understand why two inverters in parallel only produce the same power output as one unit. ie 3 Kva coupled to a 3Kva only provide 3Kva and not 6 Kva unless its because second unit is already running at capacity. I have been told 3Kva has to be coupled to a 6 Kva to get 6Kva output, why not get one 6 Kva unit on its own. Please explain.
Living in hope David

There are different models
Multiplus and multiplus 2. They cannot be installed in parallel.

Get a piece of paper and draw boxes showing what power flow you are aiming at. Include your isolating transformers etc

As an example

flowchart TB

    SP[Shore Power]
    GEN[Generator]

    COS[Changeover Switch]
    MDB[Main AC Distribution]

    INV1[Inverter 3kVA Pilot House Cabin Half Galley]
    INV2[Inverter 3kVA Engine Room]
    INV3[Inverter 5kVA Galley Saloon Three Cabins]

    LOAD1[Pilot House Cabin Half Galley AC]
    LOAD2[Engine Room AC]
    LOAD3[Galley Saloon Three Cabins AC]

    SP --> COS
    GEN --> COS

    COS --> MDB

    MDB --> INV1
    MDB --> INV2
    MDB --> INV3

    INV1 --> LOAD1
    INV2 --> LOAD2
    INV3 --> LOAD3

Thanks to everyone for the advice, I might just run one 5KW for saloon/cabin/engine room one 3KW for pilothouse/cabins by separating ac system.

This is a block diagram the quattro and multiplus are old units and this is a new I am buying.

Block diagram as above but shared 24 volt DC supply and isolating transformers from the incoming mains A/C /generator from change over switch and separate boat into 3 independent consumer units from the 3 inverters

not sure what would be the out come when all try to charge house battery bank together with independent solar & wind generator suppling at same time.

HELP Victron agent says he is informed that backward compatibility is no problem and so long as all Victron units there is no problem in parallel on A/C supply / pass though, but would still have only max 5KVa as the two 3KW inverters would just boost to the max quattro output of 5Kva

So I will have to split the boats A/C supply via change over switch to 3 consumer units to serve the boat with a total of 11Kva from all of the units, is my understanding is the only solution which is contrary to the advice from this forum.

CONFUSION Please Help which is the correct advice.
