We are in the middle of making Venus OS compatible with the RaspberryPi 5 as well as making it possible to run gui-v2 / New UI. A long awaited and demanded feature.
To continue forward, it would be good to know which types of displays are used most often. Please reply saying which one you use.
[A] RaspberryPi Touch Display
[B] Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2, either the 7” or the recently released 5”
In my opinion, with the introduction of the Android GX Wi-Fi Display app, there’s little reason to continue using wired displays, whether for the Cerbo or the Raspberry Pi. At least, this holds true for stationary installations.
I’m currently using option C with a small waveshare display (Display port, not HDMI) and Pi 4. Wifi option requires a network which I don’t have in a mobile application. Glad this is being worked on.
In stationary house setup I operate Gerbo with my Android phone, but in a camper I have RPi 3 setup with small touchscreen. When in transit, the camper is out of local network. Therefore wired display is must have and switching to new GUI is not possible so far (using Kwindrem add-on). RPi has considerably smaller footprint compared to Gerbo gx, and I just had one spare in my junk box.
I´m new at all the stuff and products from Victron and decided a view days ago, to try the Victron OS on an Raspberry Pi at first and bought for this project the Raspi Touch Display 2 5”.
Today i tried to run the new Panel and I found out, that this panel doesn’t supported.
But then, I fount this thread. Thanks to the Victron Team, that you support this project on raspberry pi. And now I’m happy.
Hopefully we get an support on other (included the touch display 2) displays in future.
