Victron MPPT 75/15 to 3 panels 30A

Hello, Can I use Victron BlueSolar MPPT 75/15 with 3 panels in parallel max 30A. Chat GPT says is is possible because MPPT controller deciding how much power he wll get from panels. And I’ll receive 15A.

1st rule: Don’t use Chat GPT for designing anything.

2: Use MPPT Calculator - Victron Energy

  1. You need the data from your solar modules: Voc,Isc to answer this question.

32v 10a. Victron calculator just want to sell more expensive product. I have only 75/15. Chat gpt possible is right.

You can’t connect 3 × (1s3p) panels that produce ~30 A total Isc to a Victron BlueSolar MPPT 75/15 its maximum PV short-circuit current is 20 A, so 30 A would exceed the controller’s rating and can damage it and void the warranty.

Victron calculator gives results based on specifications of devices.

Chat GPT gives results on what it finds somewhere and is tended to positive responses (I have vast experience with answers ranging from unrelated to subject till disastrous). The bad thing is it doesn’t UNDERSTAND the subject, it simply assembles the answer, trying to please You.

It’s for You to decide if You want to go with specifications and simply use the system or to experiment, loosing the warranty and understanding that it could lead to magic smoke at any moment.

Using the MPPT calculator will tell you what is possible with the MPPT that you have. IF you have the skill then you can interpret the data sheet to see what is possible beyond the recommended. Chat GPT will not be aware of all of the data or how to interpret it, particularly what will happen if certain parameters are exceeded. All AI do not know right from wrong, and will likely tell you what it thinks you want to hear.

In particular: Exceeding either the Max Vin or Max I in of the MPPT will lead to the destruction or inoperability of the MPPT unit. Too much current will melt the switching devices as the max power point is searched for (this is why you can’t use them as dc/dc converters sourced from a battery), and exceeding the Max V in will trip the input protection, shorting the PV input. If that condition is allowed to persist, even with the max input current, then the input protection device will melt, going short circuit. This may also cause the battery protection fuse to blow. This is what Chat GPT does NOT know about these devices.
