Victron Connect Pairing Issue (Android 15)

Hi Brian,

These service logs don’t tell anything new, just that the bonding is “done” in approx 2 seconds the first time and approx 0.3 seconds with later attempts. So my theory is still another app providing a pincode to Android.

Do you have another phone that you can try with just to see if it works with that phone?

Kind regards,
Thiemo van Engelen

ok so let me see if I get this… I buy a premium Smart Shunt product and try connecting to my premium up to date Android phone. Every other BLE device and app on this phone works flawlessly. So naturally the problem has to be with my phone, so as you suggest, I should go acquire somehow another phone or factory reset my phone so only your app and device is on it, so that I can then use the Smart Shunt to its fullest abilities and then hope that I don’t again install this unknown magical app that is preventing just your app from working?

Nah … but thank you anyway for your help. I’ve already spent the money for this thing, and all this time screwing with it, I’m cutting my losses and will just remove it and throw it in the junk drawer.

So I have to go buy another phone is what you guys are saying? There’s not a problem at all with the Smart Shunt, even though I have other BLE devices working perfectly fine on my phone, and when there are other reports of the same problem in these forums?

Isn’t it worth a try with another phone to see if it’s a problem with the Shunt, the app or with your phone?
If you have the same issue with another phone → it’s a problem with the Shunt or the app.
If it’s working with another phone → the problem is on your phone

It’s from 2023. That shouldn’t be to old.
I have a One Plus 8T from 2020.

your One Plus 8T has Android 11

how much for a phone with Android 15 since Android 15 is not that old or with Android 14 and upgradeable to 15? At least a couple hundred at right?

So, is it worth it, not really. ill just leave the thing in place, so i don’t have to worry about changing out wires etc., and just let it sit there and forget about it. I can use my phone with the battery BMS & app that works perfectly fine on my Android 15 over Bluetooth if I need to monitor.

It was released with Android 11 but it got updated and ist running 14 now.
(but I think it wont get the update to 15)

Thanks for the feedback. I didn’t have any issues with Android 14, as the title of this topic states Android 15, and others with Android 15 had same issues. I’m not going to be buying a new latest phone to test this with. I know it’s not working and all my other devices do. So that’s where I have to leave it I guess.

Hi Brian,

I understand your feeling. I am however both trying to help you, but also find ways in how we can improve our products and VictronConnect. For this I asked whether you have another phone just to test whether this is an issue with a specific phone or with this SmartShunt. If this is not the case, then ok… I have to think about other ways to perhaps get to the root cause of the problem.

As a side note: There are thousands of Pixel 7a phones with VictronConnect installed with most of them running Android 15 and we do not get a lot of complaints. This makes it in my opinion the most likely that there is something with your phone that makes it fail. I would really like to know what this is and then how we can improve to make it work. But if you don’t want to spend anymore time on this, then I can understand that. But there is one more thing that you can try without it taking a lot of time and that is pairing from within the Android Bluetooth menu (even though this is normally not advised). Perhaps the pairing/pincode behavior of Android is different then.

Then regarding the phone working with every other BLE device. Do you know whether there are any of them using pincode pairing? As this is the problem here and this method is not used a lot. If none of them are using pincode pairing then it is not weird that they work and our product and app give problems.

With kind regards,
Thiemo van Engelen

I’m getting the same issue on a new 100|30 MPPT controller using my Pixel 9 Pro XL with Android 15 – I get a paring request but when I tap on it, it goes away and I cannot enter the PIN

Not sure how Samsung is the gold standard for Android since Google developed it…but anyway. The pair & connect screen pops up over the Victron app but when you tap on it it goes away.
I’ve successfully connected on a Pixel tablet no problem.

No it’s not under the vc, it “rolls up”

The prompt is not under the VC and when it displays and you tap it, it “rolls up” and disappears – there is nothing to pull back down. This is not my first rodeo connecting things via bluetooth. Between other solar controllers, batteries, water valves, blinds, ear buds, power monitors, t-stats, you name it I’ve probably paired it via bluetooth a one time or another. As Brian mentions earlier in this thread, how are the Premium Victron devices the only thing having issues and Victron’s response is to factory reset the phone? That’s just not the answer.

To be clear, no one from Victron has at any time suggested a factory reset of the phone. That was a hyperbolic statement from an upset end-user.

It is evident, from multiple reports, that some phones on a specific Android OS version are having issues with the app - this indicates that something between the phone, the OS version, and the app is experiencing difficulties.

It’s not a direct problem with the app alone, of course, since it’s working for everyone else with different phones and different OS versions, and different phones running the same OS version, which means that’s it’s a very narrow and specific issue and Victron is making a sincere attempt to gather information regarding these specific difficulties to see what they may be able to do to help resolve the issue.

Hyperbole and other unhelpful or inaccurate commentary (this is directed at more than one person in this thread) will not help in resolving the current issue.

@thiemovanengelen Some additional info on this issue:
Both my Pixel phone and Tablet are running the same Android 15 with security update (March 5th, 2025).
Since I was able to connect with the tablet, I’ve updated all the firmware on the MPPT
Tried resetting the PUK code to 000000
None of these efforts resulted in the ability to input the PIN from the Phone – If it would help I can do a short screen recording of the behavior and upload it here.
@Ludo – I appreciate your help – but googling “samsung bluetooth problems” yields just as many results – I don’t believe its just a bluetooth problem, I believe its some combination or order of operations

That would definitely help, I think, that way one of the software engineers can have a look at the behavior. I’m running Android 15 on a Nokia XR21 and have no issues pairing, so I think you’re correct - it’s none of the individual elements alone (OS/app/device), but some combination of all of the above.

As soon as I’m back in town, I’ll record the process/outcome. I’m also going to try connecting in safemode – that may shed some light on the situation. – side note – since the connection issues with Victron got my Eco-Worthy batteries delivered. Installed their app and connected via bluetooth first time, no issues.

Hi,

Did this also involve pairing where you had to provide a pincode in the Android pincode entry dialog?

Kind regards,
Thiemo van Engelen

It did not. No pincode for this type of connection.

I may be well off the mark here, but what about location.

I have to have my location on as well as bluetooth.
