Folks,

I’m running a Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/70-MC4 VE.Can (12/24/48) connected to 2 strings of 4 solarpanels. This setup is for the summer time, otherwise I had buy the more expensive RS device.

However, in the (current) wintertime power is much less so I wonder if it’s sensible to (temporary) connect the panels back to 1 string of 8 as the MPPT calculator recommends 2x4.

Hi Robert,
No, don’t do that. Even in winter, panels can develop their rated Voc. And kill the mppt.
They won’t develop more power in longer strings anyway.
