Despite all the criticism I’ve voiced about the DESS over the past two years, I’d like to share a very positive observation. On Thursday, November 6th, we had abundant sunshine and high PV production. The forecast for Friday, November 7th, predicted equally sunny weather. Due to my job, I use four weather apps from various providers, and they all predicted the same thing. While the sun did rise on Friday morning, an hour later a thick blanket of fog rolled in, which persisted throughout the day. So much for the planned PV output. It was extremely interesting to observe how the system reacted to this situation on an hourly basis. Initially, it excluded the moderate periods from battery usage and drew energy directly from the grid. Later, it even charged the battery at a favorable time. In retrospect, one might argue that the system missed good charging opportunities. But it didn’t. Neither I nor any weather forecast predicted this situation. If the DESS had charged at that time and the fog hadn’t materialized, it would have been a negative outcome. Even if I had reacted within 15 minutes, I couldn’t have reacted any better. Things are going very, very well at the moment. Thank you, Victron team!
