Variable power source for trailer

Is it possible to use the voltage of the car ( 24 V ) as an alternative source instead of a solar panel on a e.g. MPPT 75/15 to load the battery on the trailer ( 12 V ) ?

What you can do is buy a BLUETTI Charger 1 universal MPPT alternator charger or get an isolated power supply like the Victron Orion converter 24/48. You can’t just hook it up to the battery.

Thanks for the advice, the Victron Orion TR 24/12 does exactly what I was looking for - an additional independent solar system can be installed in parallel.

Not exactly the same. If you want to charge the battery from the 24V supply, you can use the Victron Orion-Tr Smart Isolated DC-DC Charger. If you get the 24/12V model, you will also need to check the current you want to charge at because you can’t change it. If you get the 15A or 30A you can only charge with the rated current.

If you use the MPPT you can set the charge current. There is also the Orion XS 1400 that will do 24 to 12V and has a variable output. The Orion XS 1400 is not isolated, which may not be ideal.
