V3.60 Cerbo gx shows generator instead of alternator

How can I change the generator to alternator in the screen?
The cerbo is connected to a Wakspeed 500 pro with a shunt in the positive wire of the alternator.

If

  1. The CAN cable is installed properly, black plug to WS500 blue plug to Cerbo, give a small tug on the cable to pull the plus back against the catches.
  2. The CAN cable is the correct cross over cable (beware home made cross over cables).
  3. Terminators are in the 2 devices, black plug to WS500 blue plug to Cerbo.

And the WS500 settings in the System tab of the app (or fields in the text file)

  1. “Enable OSEnergy (RV-C) CAN subsystem” is turned on.
  2. “Enable NMEA2000 CAN subsystem” is turned on.
  3. “Will you install a current shunt on the Alternator” is turned on.

And on the Cerbo GX

  1. You have firmware V3.50 or later and are running gui2, new gui.

Then as soon as the WS500 is turned on, the Alternator box will appear on the Overview screen, but it is only shown when the WS500 is on. The generator box is normally shown going to the inverter as generator is ac.

Thanks for the answer.
I have exactly the installations that You described.
Firmware 3.60. My screen looks as Yours in your answer, but written Generator instead of Alternator.
May be it is a translation mistake. I use german as language. But Alternator is not a generator.

Could be a translation error we see these from time to time. Can I ask you to post a screenshot of yours and I will move this thread so it gets seen by Victron and corrected.

I gave a full answer because I see many cases where one of the steps in the WS500 install gets missed so thought that was the issue, good to see when it is set right.

Same screen in english and german.

Thanks for Your help and friendly answer.

To summarise, issue is only the german translation - right?

It is in german and in english. You can see at the photos above. I made english and german photos.
I get after firmware 3.62 again generater instead of alternator. No change till now.

I have a question and possibly some clues for the Swedish language.
My setup is Cerbo GX and BMS NG and my Orion XS shows “Generator”, I think this is tricky:
English--------------------------------------------Swedish
Alternator (on the engine)---------------Generator
Generator (free standing)----------------Elverk

My questions are, is the “Generator” in my picture meant to represent the Alternator on the engine, in which case is it correct.

And is the setting, “Alternator charging the main battery”, is “main battery” my starter battery? My leisure battery is charged from the “main battery” (if it is the starter battery) via the Orion XS which in turn is charged by the alternator, which is more correct. But if I switch to that, the Orion XS loses contact with the BMS.
So if you are going to look at what the Output battery setting for the Orion XS should do, it is defacto that it should “Charge another battery from the main battery” at the same time as it is true that “Alternator is charging the main battery”, this is confusing

As far as the GX device is concerned the “Main” battery is the battery that is set in the system menu “Battery Monitor” setting as the one you are monitoring and showing the SOC for, which in your case is the leisure battery. Therefore your are charging the main battery from an alternator via the Orion XS so everything is OK. In your case “Generator” appears to be the correct translation.

So to summarise and double check if I am not missing anything. In older firmware the word “generator” was translated wrongly, but since 3.62, the translations for both German and Swedish are correct.
Concluding that there is no issue in the translation.

If not, please let me know. And I can confirm that there were issues with the translation of “generator” for some languages a while ago (which explains why it might be wrong in 3.60). Those should have been fixed.

And we never translate product names, so those are always English, no matter the set language.

„Generator“ comes in english and in german. It is no translation problem. I would like to have there Alternator. The Wakespeed WS500Pro has a shunt in the alternator positive wire.
On all other pictures I see „Alternator“ in that place. How can I change this?
Thanks for help.

“Generator” is fine for Swedish when i comes from the engine and starter battery thru the Orion XS.
“Alternator” is not used in swedish

Generator (in english) as a free standing device (can also be bay mounted), i don´t know if there will show up as a source in the display if it´s activaded thru the cerbo? Is ít? If showing up it should be called “Elverk” in Swedish even if we sometimes call them Generator, but to keep them apart it should be called “Elverk”
