Using the EM530 USA split phase and Cerbo GX reboots/update —> revert to 3 phase

I’m using the EM-530 to prevent backfeed in a 2x multiplus ii 48/5kVa split phase setup and it’s been working fine. The problem is that if the cerbo reboots or updates software then it sets the EM-530 to 3 phase which adds a nuisance phase 3 to the display.

To correct this I have to go to the main load center and manually reset the EM-530 to 2 phase and then reload the display.

A proposed change is to add a “Split Phase” option to this menu for the USA customers and keep the EM-530 set to 2 phase which would eliminate the nuisance phase showing and also the reset effort that follows.

Thanks for a great product,

Mike McCann

Sadly, it has been like this for as long as I can remember.

The VenusOS code always sends a “reset to three-phase mode” message to the EM530 regardless of the configuration.

Because it was so annoying, I went as far as putting a man-in-the-middle processor to snip out that Modbus message so the EM530 wouldn’t see the message. But I stopped doing that when I gave up on running the ESS assistant here in the US.

Is there a way to submit this to Victron? Do they read these posts?

If you add the tag for “bug report” sometimes it may be seen.

Otherwise contact the dealer for support and they can contact Victron.

The forum here is mostly user-to-user support.

Thank you. I copied this to a place that allows the bug report tag.

Bug report tag added. You had hit a tag limit, just needed to replace one of the others.

Thanks Nick! I hope Victron sees it.

I have bumped this with the team, can’t promise what happens thereafter.

Yes, we read these things, it might just take a while to reach top of the priority stack.

The driver for the Carlo Gavazzi meters does indeed configure the meter for the desired application every time it starts up. This is done deliberately, so that an installer can just plug it in, and it will work immediately. He does not have to download and use the UCS software separately to configure things. In short, this is very much by design.

Where it breaks down, for you guys with the single phase 240V setup and the neutral in the middle, is that we don’t distinguish between split-phase and multiphase. We consider split-phase to be multiphase, because logically it is. It does not affect system operation at all, but as you noticed, you have a non-existent L3 showing up.

Right now, this is how it is, and there is no easy fix. But I will create an issue in our bug-tracker to look at this in the near future. Thanks for reporting.

Thank you Izak!

Our power in the U.S. is definately strange compared to the rest of the world but sadly, we are stuck with it. I purchased all Victron equipment because I feel that it is simply the best and over the last two years, the inverters, MPPT, lynx and cerbo has worked well and with 70kWh of batteries and a nice TOU plan is saving me $3000 per year in energy. So thank you for a great product and putting this small issue on the list for your USA customers!

Also thank you Nick for elevating the issue.
