Solar Priority Mode not ignoring shore power to prioritize use of solar on a boat

Yes the manual says that Generator should go to AC1 if you have generator and shore power, but with only a single source of external power, the assumption would be to put in in AC1. Nowhere does the manual make clear that shore power must go into AC2 on a Quattro or solar priority won’t work. I suspect this is something the developers just know, but my certified Victron install shop clearly didn’t know this because my shore power was wired to AC1…and the same is true of a bunch of sailboats I’m on a WhatsApp group for…

It does in the link above.
Single source of power i.e. both sharing require a digital inout to indicate what source it is on. This method is used for multiplus inverters that don’t have two inputs.

Otherwise name the source each time it is changed over that may help.

The assumption usually is that if a generator is running that wasting it is not an option.

The link says

For Quattros, it requires the generator to be wired to the AC-in-1 input.

That does not address a case where there is no generator, just shore power. Again, a simple sentence that says “if no generator is used, shore power should be connected to AC-in-2 input” would resolve a lot of issues.

The manual is correct, but what I’ve found with Victron gear is you have to read every sentence in every manual several times before you design a system. Don’t feel bad, until user dwmarine pointed the way, it wasn’t obvious to other users or even Victron experts.

“Interestingly enough, the “state of charge” reflects “–” for the Quattro while the BMV shows the correct state of charge”

Maybe turn off the battery monitor option in the inverter, general tab. It won’t be accurate since more than the inverter is connected to the battery. The bmv shunt is the battery monitor that you want to use, which dvcc should be using.

It was not there with the Quattro battery monitor (first page of the config software) turned off. This is despite the Quattro talking to the BMV712 via VE.Bus. When I turned on the Quattro’s own battery monitor, it appeared in the Quattro display on the ColorGX.
