SmartShunt

I recently purchased a SmartShunt and an Ekrano to monitor a new system that I am working on.

I also have a Zeus regulator that I acquired during my transition from FLA to LFP.

Wondering if I can connect the battery shunt leads from my Zeus regulator onto the battery terminals of my SmartShunt (under the washer but on top of the battery lugs - no drilling and tapping for a new point of attachment)?

This would save space and not require another shunt. Would this impact accuracy?

Or do I need a second shunt wired in series with the SmartShunt?

You would need to connect everything to the load/charge side of the shunt.

Nothing but battery on the battery side if you need accurate SOC

As far as I understand the Zeus has a standard shunt and wire signal leads screwed to the terminal blocks. The SmartShunt has the PCB signal contacts screwed directly to the shunt.

A single shunt can be used to feed a battery measurement to 2 devices as you plan. However, the signal leads MUST NOT be connected to the battery bolts / lugs because the battery bolts carry a high current, there will be some voltage drop on the battery bolts which will corrupt the measured voltage. This is why the signal leads always have their own connection.

Theoretically you could break open the SmartShunt and connect to the SmartShunt signal screws but this is not certain to avoid problems if the connections are degraded.

If you want a single shunt then to do it properly you need to drill and tap an extra pair of M3 or M4 holes into the SmartShunt.

The other thing you could do is look into the Zeus programming, CAN options and see if it can be supplied with battery current from the Ekrano assuming you are connecting this to the Ekrano via VE CAN, I have this capability.on my Wakespeed.

Well a second shunt seems easier to procure and install than drilling and tapping.

I would like to attach the SmartShunt directly to a Victron Power In module but the shunt bolt is too short. What should a longer bolt need to be made of?

Brass or stainless steel
