I connected the VE.Direct rs232 cable via a USB adapter to my laptop and read the rs232 communication. I notice data is sent every second. (Probably to monitor it) But I don’t want the Victron to send all his data every second. Then I connected with the Victron app and selected anything other than normal communication under tx port function and the data wasn’t sent any more. Now you can request the data with the VE.Direct protocol. But when you request any data all data which previously was sent, is now sent for 4 times. Then the communication is back to silent. Is there a way that all data is not sent 4 times after a request.
Older implementations
• On power up, a VE.Direct interface will always be in Text-mode, and continuously transmits
all run-time fields. As soon as it receives a valid HEX-message, it will switch to HEX-mode. It
will stay in HEX-mode as long as HEX-messages are frequently received. After a product has
not received any valid HEX-messages for several seconds, it will switch back to Text-mode
and start to auto transmit the run-time fields periodically again. Some products will send
Asynchronous HEX-messages, starting with “:A” and ending with a newline ‘\n’, on their
own. These messages can interrupt a regular Text-mode frame.
Newer implementations
• Always have the Text-mode active, regardless of the HEX-messages.
