RCD for Automatic Disconnection on EasySolar-II 24/3000/70-32

Hi, I am planning an off-grid PV system using the Victron EasySolar-II 24/3000/70-32 MPPT 250/70 GX (PMP242307010) and a 25.6 V 100 Ah battery. It is unlikely that the system will ever be connected to the grid (it will always be stand-alone). The inverter output will feed some UK BS1363 13 Amp sockets. The UK electrical code (BS7671, 18th edition) requires that such sockets must have protection against electric shock by automatic disconnection of supply, which is usually achieved with an RCD. Can you advise if automatic disconnection will work with this inverter (in other words, can the output neutral connection be connected to earth, or is it already connected as a default within the inverter) and if so, what type of RCD to use?

You need an external RCD, which is not included in the EasySolar-II 24/3000/70-32.

There is an earth relay that is normally closed in island mode ( PE and N bridged ), but not if you use AC In.

You can find more information on this in the EasySolar-II 24/3000/70-32 manual.

Hi DirkW, Thanks for your quick response. I understand that the RCD will be external, but I still need to know what type to use. The wrong type may not trip due to DC or high-frequency AC harmonic disturbance. I believe types B, B+ or F might be suitable. What do you think?

The MP2 /EasySolar has a real and very heavy transformer at the output, you don’t need a RCD that can detect direct current.
The simplest one from the hardware store will do. I think it would be type A/AC. But please check again.
