I have a multiplusll 48/5000 I believe it’s all wired up correctly, but I’m getting an RCD trip on the AC out. The installation is in an annex, so goes through 3 fuse boxes before solar installation. Local electrician said it might need to be connected at the first fuse box. Could that be a reason or is there another possible problem?
If there was a fault on the Victron inverter, would it show up on my GX device?
Many thanks Charles
What type of RCD is it?
Are you using ESS
Not likely to be a fault on the inverter .
Is there any potential between earth and neutral
What is connected to the AC Out ?
Maybe a little Drawing could help us
Summary
In some installation RCD’s will trip prematurely. This can be caused by the following:
The system has a double MEN (neutral to earth) link, this will cause the RCD to trip due to a potential difference in earth.
The system contains equipment that introduces a small ‘below threshold’ amount of neutral earth leakage, and the cumulative effect of that can cause unpredictable nuisance tripping of RCD’s. Some common troublesome appliances to check and disconnect first when troubleshooting are: surge Protected Power-boards, old refrigerator compressors and electric hot water units (due to their own earth differential from the main earth stake)
.
when my eltrician installed my new power distrution with RCDs on all circuits, two tripped each time they where closed wise versa. Before I did not had RCDs on all circuits, but only on wet rooms.
In the end, one outlet had phase and neutral on circuit A and PE and curcuit B.
It took ous 5 hours to open and measure all in wall distributions for the main floor, garage uper floor and basement and measre all alternative circuits for lights.
Now all circuites are protected with sperated RCBOs and nothing is tripping except I test it
Though, maybe check the cicruits with RCD connected but wihtout MP2.
If this is working, check earthing of MP2 and programming of the earth relay of the MP2.
The clacking sound is normal on startup, mine does exactly the same
Thank you for taking the time to get back to me. It’s much appreciated.
Sorry I was a bit brief in my previous description of the fault. I’ve made a short film, hopefully giving you a bit more of an idea of the set up I’ve got, just follow the link below.
I’ve had a few qualified electricians experienced in solar and battery storage, just not familiar with the Victron range.
