Proper setup for exporting to grid (UK)

Hi all,
Thinking about getting an MP II 5000 with a large battery to use purely to load shift.
Plan is to charge on cheap rate then discharge and even export at peak rate.
As there will be only one AC connection, am I right in assuming this goes to the AC IN1?, if so, will inverted current also go out of that connection when exporting?
I don’t intend to have any ‘essential loads’, so no UPS function is needed.
Sorry if these are silly questions, but the documentation is not clear on these points?
Also, I assume I’ll need a meter or CT clamp on the DNO Live leg so the MP can work out import/export measurements etc…?
Thanks, P

That’s correct - that’s “ESS” mode: ESS Quick Installation Guide [Victron Energy]

Grid parallel MP2 goes on AC IN1, no other AC connections required (unless you want sustained output).

A CT clamp can be your grid meter, fitted to the live tail in your meter box (you need to buy this separately). The MP2, with the correct configuration, will aim to supply your loads and prevent drawing from the grid.

The grid settings on the MP2 48/5000 allow two grid codes; G98 which limits the inverter to 16A or G99 which allows the full power of the inverter to be used.

G98 is a connect and notify process to the DNO. G99 is more involved and requires making an application to the DNO before applying.

Thanks for your response.
Most of the schematic layouts show a single AC connection but they are not labeled… lol
I have a CT (Blue) spare so will try that.
I’m on G99 as have other grid connected inverters (Solax and SE), my DNO approval allows the additional 5kva MP but export is still limited to 5kW so there is that…
Thanks again

Be aware that the MP doesn’t have G100 certification (export limiting) so options there are limited.

Understood! I’ll ensure it’s limited. It’ll mostly only be exporting during the evening (No solar generation) and a little load shifting.

The Cerbo GX is the DESS/ESS G100 controller. But…. Victron apparently have no plans to perform any UK ENA compliance tests with MP and Cerbo GX anytime in the near future.

So…. No G100 compliance. Don’t try asking for a DNO approval letter!!

I did a G99 application to add a multiplusII 5kVA (VICEN/02689/V3/A3 in the ENA database) to an existing 2.65kW Fronius grid-tie inverter, and they were happy to approve the application in 2 days, (with a 5kW G100 export limit). So you can ask for approval and get it.
What is not clear to me is whether they are happy with the limiting the MultiPlus-II can do, or if they want some extra G100 device installed (does such a thing exist?)

Ultimately it is the inverter that does the limiting, thus provided it’s paired with a suitable meter it’ll work just fine. Although I’m not sure the Multiplus is certified G100, I know it is G99; Has the DNO asked for evidence? if not, then you are golden…

The DNO has not asked for any extra evidence, with the initial approval, just stated
“Please note that your generation capacity has been amended as agreed:
Agreed export capacity (including G100 devices): 5.00 kW
G100 export limiting scheme on premises? Yes”

And I wasn’t sure what they meant by that exactly. Now I’ve read the G100 spec I understand that a ‘scheme’ is just the combined control system of the various bits of hardware so either the internal current meter of the Multiplus (if everything is wired through it) or an external meter connected to a GX/VenusOS device (if not) can comprise a perfectly good scheme.

I understand that once installed according to the initial approval, documentation demonstrating the scheme/installation is supposed to be provided, so I was worrying that they might complain about an out-of-date G100 certs and then ask for more evidence that it was hard for me to provide.
