Multiplus II 5000 GX, Fronius Primo 5kw AC coupled(AC Out) with 7.5kw of panels, a Smart Solar 250/70 with 3.6kw of panels and a 24Kwh BYD LVS battery.
The system is grid tied and allows export of 5kw.
I have just tried to setup opportunity loads with a Shelly 1PM on a hot water heater for the first time and having problems.
The shelly is all setup and on the same network as the Multiplus GX, it shows up under devices in the GUI and have configured it here as it should be. Under Opportunity loads my battery shows and is set as follows
But opportunity loads does not seems to be triggering. I was exporting 5kw to the grid today with the battery SOC at 100% , so should have been heating water not exporting.
Any ideas or advice as to what I may be doing wrong?
I do have node red running but nothing that would make any difference to this. I also have the Modbus TCP Sever running to push data into Home Assistant.
on which venus version are you running? On 3.80, there was unfortunately a bug, causing the “Activate loads at 100% Soc” to no longer work. This is fixed since 3.90~7 and planned to be backported to an upcoming 3.8x release. (Not yet scheduled)
Lowering that to 99% would be a workaround if you don’t want to run the beta of venus-os for this.
We had a close look at your system setup and what is happening (or “not happening”). There is an issue with single-phased systems on a three phased grid, when using individual phase-mode. Consumption on L2 or L3 will make Opportunity Loads wrongly reject any power claim for L1 as well.
A fix is being worked on - A temporary workaround could be to configure your system to balance based on “Total of all phases”. (If that is a feasible setting based on your grid providers measurement methods)
That would make Opportunity Loads enter another code branch, where it only looks at the grand-total of available AC-Capability not per phase. Then It would consider the heating rod to fit in and enable it.
I dont think I have changed anything that could be doing this. Would anything in the latest release do this?
I have also changed as suggested to the Total of all phases and will see what happens when the battery is fully charged later.
No, that cannot be related to Opportunity Loads. It does not control the inverter or battery charging in any way. (It just influences it indirect by causing consumption)
So, if your inverter is not charging the battery at maximum, something else is limiting that.
Thanks for confirming that. Have now sorted the charging issue. I had lowered the max charge voltage because I was getting issues with my BYD battery throwing a high voltage warning. Sorted now.
BUT… My battery is now fully charged and the opportunity loads still will not switch ON… and I am exporting way over what would run the heating element (2900w)
I have the latest Beta release, I am pretty sure everything is configured as per the instructions, I can trigger the Shelly on the same network.
