Multiplus-II AC-In PowerAssist

Hi everyone,

i got a question regarding Powerassist with the Multiplus 2 48/5000.

So i plan to do a mobile 48V installation and got a little bit confused by the Point 4.4 in the Manual.

For AC Victron states “Do not invert neutral and phase when connecting the AC”

So far so good AC-out 1 and 2 should be wired the same way if both are used. But how about the AC-In?

I plan to use the Powerassist function so i need AC-IN. But at like Campgrounds i can`t really be sure if neutral and Phase are switched compared to AC-Out or not.

Like the German “Schuko” Plug i have a 50:50 chance to hit the right config or mess everything up?

Does “switched” Phase and neutral compared to the AC-Out side make any difference or will the MP2 simply not work in PowerAssist?

I tried to find something to this via search but got more confused in the Progress i guess. Maybe i am reading this line by Victron completely wrong.

Thanks for the Help in advance.

If the hot and neutral are flipped, the hot line will get grounded if you have any neutral-ground bonds, and trip the breaker hopefully. Since you shouldn’t have any bonds like that, you just won’t know until something bad happens.

Personally, I would always check any campsite to ensure there is 120v (or 240v non-US) between hot and neutral, and hot and ground. Those little neon-bulb testers are fine.

The only other way is to add an isolation transformer , which is added expense and inefficiency.

Many Thanks for the Explanation. This will help me.

That’s not correct.

The ground relay inside the MultiPlus is only closed in inverter mode without grid, it opens immediately if the transfer switch closes.

With the normal configuration for caravan/boats it’s not a problem to flip L and N.
But you should have two pole breakers at the output.

There are thousands of installations like that out there and none of them is tripping the input breaker all the time.

With ESS configuration or if you have selected a grid code you get an error if L and N are flipped.

Ok, so considering everything is probably set up and i have the right Breakers there should not be an issue.

The Grid Code i can set to “None” in that Case so no Energy feed from DC to AC is allowed?

Follow up question:
Even if i use a “normal” mobile Generator to recharge the Battery if needed an Solar is not available there should not be an issue.
Worst Case i get an fault code telling me i switched L and N
Best Case everything works like intended.

Maybe this are all nonsens questions but it is the first time i work with an Multiplus.
I am familiar with electrical work. But just not with the Multiplus.

I stand corrected! Thanks
