Multiplus-II 2x120v split phase 240 volts

I think I am missing something or have an incorrect understanding of the Multiplus-II. I hope someone can share some wisdom and get me on track.

I have a new single Multiplus-II installation. US market 120 volt. Producing 240 volts as L1/L2 being split phase.

I have L1 and L2 connected to the grid. In a sub panel I have connected AC1 so all of the critical circuits in my house i.e. Communications, refrigerators, key lighting, and the house Well are to be supported.

While on grid all works as expected.

With the grid disconnected all 120 circuits function as expected. The Well however does not. The Well is 240 volt. While metering across L1 and L2 I read zero voltage. L1 to Neutral or L2 to Neutral I measure 120 volts respectively. Which is telling me I do not have split phase.

The Multiplus-II is configured as single. When I attempted to program as multi phase 120 degrees I get a message that states no Multi found in L2.

Does this mean I have to have two Multiplus-II units in order to obtain 120v split phase in order to arrive at the 240 required by the Well or will I have to use an Autotransformer for the Well when not running on grid?

I suppose my mis-understanding was that the feature list states that it provides 240 volts, however it does not states that it produces split phase or am I just terribly confused?

The Multiplus-II 2x120v is intentionally designed to pass through split phase 120/240v power when connected to shore power or grid, and to provide the same 120V to L1 and L2 when inverting. No 240V appliances will work because L1 and L2 are the same (0 volts between them).

If it is just the well you need 240V for, maybe an autotransformer is the easiest way forward.

Victron example schematics show multiple ways to generate split-phase power with inverters.
Two standard Multiplus 120V or Multiplus-II 120V units can configured for split-phase using VE.Configure. The neutrals need to be combined.

Alternatively, a single European 230V Multiplus (reprogrammed for 240V 60 Hz) with an Autotransformer can generate split phase. I personally don’t recommend this approach.

Thank you Rick. This is pretty much what I had concluded. I just misunderstood when making a single MultiPlus-II for this application. I think I will approach this by providing a 2nd MultiPlus-II to the configuration. The additional power is never a bad thing.

Thank you for taking the time to get me on track.

I don’t think you can combine a Multiplus 2x120v with anything else, including another 2x120v. Though I could be wrong. EDIT: Manual does talk about parallel and split configuration options, but I can’t tell if it is copy.paste from another manual or you can really do that.

Definitely check with Victron documentation before you purchase more units if that is the plan.

Great feedback. I certainly will. Thanks again Rick.
