It’s warming up in Texas! I attempted to power on my air conditioner today and the inverter shut itself off. I had shore power hooked up to my generator - it’s a WEN 3500W inverter/generator (4500 W surge-rated). Before installing our Victron system last year, we could start and run an A/C unit on the generator so I expected it to work. Do I need to adjust some settings? Any ideas/suggestions?
After a few moments the inverter came back on is working fine but it’s a little warm in the camper!
Hi @Rob1,
Did you wait for the multi to be sync with your generator? How much power does your ac draws?
I think the generator’s signal got out of multi specs so it could have opened its relay to disconnect shore.
You should probably look at dynamic curent limiter, boostfactor and power assist to ease sudden loads for your genset and also change the current limit, because 50 amps is too much for your generator.
In last resort, you could enable weak ac, but I don’t think that’s the problem.
Update: I changed the current limit from 50 amps to 30 amps and now either AC unit will start with or without the generator. Current draw momentarily spikes up to almost 40 amps on the 120V leg when the compressor kicks on, then quickly settles to about 12 amps.
