Multi RS Solar at Intersolar Exhibition - 8kWp Solar

Hello,

I saw a video of the Intersolar Exhibition in Germany, on the Victron stand, Multi RS solar (double tracker standard version, not the multi rs19 rack version) was presented as having 8kWp of solar capabilities. I also received the Multi RS with 8kWp solar written on the box.

Is this an error or maybe there is a new version of the Multi RS?

Thank you

Photo of the Rs itself?

I just took that picture at the booth:

If I remember correctly there was a typo on a batch of devices, so you maybe got one of those.

Sorry for the quality,

You can see “Mppt trackers totalling 8kWp”

It is from this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xZZbEJl1ZvM

I had once 8013 watt solar power with my RS 6000, only for a very short time(!)

Indeed…

A most welcome typo for marketing purposes…
When Isc is downsizing from 13A to 12A, the power is going up from 3,000,000 mWp to 4,000,000 mWp.
Just kidding… on fair’s last day. And waiting for the fairy tales, like when it will be available…

Alex I know you are the most knowledgeable user for the Multi RS here, do you know if the mppt hardware of the multi rs is the same as for mppt rs 450/100?

I am thinking it is the same but they software limited it in order to decrease heat generation and increase service life of the multi rs. What do you think?

It is written 6000wp charging power, but is there a possibility for 6000wp charging + 2000wp for directly powered the loads? Totalling 8000w solar power generation?

It is a bit tricky to understand these all in ones units

For Multi RS, where the IGBTs of the DC/AC inverter are on the same heatsink as the FETs from the MPPTs, indeed, for heat purposes the current must be downsized and MPPTs are 3kWp.

But in the case of 450/100 MPPT RS, there is no restriction from this point of view and, indeed, the MPPTs can go as much as 4kWp for channel.

And yes, from what I saw, the HW schematic is the same for MPPTs.
Only the components, from cost point of view, are different.

Interesting, to me it is proof that it can indeed generate 8000w of solar power, but it does not mean it can charge at 8000w of course.

If it can really provide 8000w of solar generation, it is good news

I have 10 solarpanels on each mppt, 325 wp for each panel.

So that’s 6500wp. If they are all south, it possible for 6500wp to beyond 8000w of generation when irradiance goes > 1000w/m2

It says 8kWp so the recommended max installed PV power, it’s not the charging power.
The charging power is 100A → around 5kW depending on the battery voltage.

Yes this is what we are told, but we saw multiple time on this forum from users that it can take more than 7000w from panels . And Frisianstar just shared a screenshot showing 8000w max solar power production

For a very short time maybe les then 10 seconds!

Can this be backed up by some official documents?
Where can the users find about maximum installed PV power?
Everyone knows about overpaneling, but no official imprint about how much can this be.

Because otherwise, for a Multi RS, the official datasheets/manuals says only about:
Maximum PV conversion power 6kW total - 3kW per tracker.

And, in the end, the user is interested on how much it can produce, not how much it is recommended to install…
So, until otherwise specified, a Multi RS can produce only 3kW per tracker.

Therefore, sorry, many could say that an imprint as the one on Intersolar saying “MPPT trackers, totalling 8kWp” is misleading, when the spec sheet says “Maximum PV conversion power: 6kW total”

Thanks Buzzy,

So it seems that

The 8 kWp was a mistake in printing and is being corrected.

is still propagating as a marketing mistake.

Well… it happens (??)…

Yes it is said it is a typo on the box, but I find it strange that they made the exact same “mistake” during the Intersolar Exhibition

It is confusing. If 8kwp means the max overpanelling power you can attach to it, then it is misleading. We would need clarification by Victron staff

In the end, nevermind, those 6kWp are more than the 5kW (6kVA) that the inverter can supply.
And it’s covering pretty well the needs for Multi RS.
Let’s enjoy it and use it happily, as it seems that it’s handling pretty well the specifications.

Let’s get going and experimenting with the HS19!!!

There they’ve doubled the MPPT voltage, so double the power of a MPPT 450/100 tracker, so 8kWp on a tracker.
Easily done with proper sized semiconductors.
But with 4 x 8kWp trackers, and 3 x 5kW inverters, then THAT is a challenge from heat point of view.
If the efficiency is not properly enforced, then the heat will be a REAL issue.
