[Multi RS Solar 48/6000] Question Regarding IMPP

Dear All,

i am currently planing an island Solar Solution for a small garden.

While in the Process of picking Panels i saw that the Multi RS Solar 48/6000 is only able to Handle 13A per String.

What does happen if the Modules are able to produce more?

Will it only take the 13A max and nothing else happens?

Or could it get damaged?

Panels under 13A go up to 455W, but 500W Panels will have ~15A under “Peak Conditions”. (Highest i found was a 750W Panel with nearly 20A

Looking forward to your replies

Rated Maximum short circuit is 16A by spec sheet.

Meaning anything lower than 16A will be okay?!

That’s how I read it, yes.

Current normally has a 130% over paneling allowance, but voltage is an absolute hard limit

Hi there,I’ve got bifacials with 49.55V open circuit voltage and 13.85A Short circuit current. This is without the bifacial gain .My panels would go up in “best conditions” to 675 Wp.Oversized, because the Multi RS only takes up to 3kw per MPPT.Most important is not to go over the max. MPPT voltage, which is 8x the Float Voltage of your Battery bank(s).cheers Frank

there is a video on the Vicron professional site, where Guy Steward discusses the Multi RS.

the 16A short circuit rating is only for reverse polarity connection.

The multi rs can only draw 3000w per mppt, even if you have a 50kw pv array on your roof, the multi will only request 3000w from the array at max. you just have to make sure that the pv voltage at 3000w is at a reasonable current. ie >200Volts (200v @ 3000w equals 15A)

a pv array cannot “push” current into the mppt, current flows when there is a demand for it
