I have a MPPT RS 450/200 with 4 strings of 6 x DMEGC 650W DM6502RT-B66HSW panels attached to it. The charger has been intermittently giving me #27 short circuit error. From what I gather this might be a faulty unit or a software related issue? Serial number is HQ2523RC9ZK. Does anybody here have experience with this fault? i install these chargers all the time, first time ever having issues with it. Initially i also have a #200 fault, but that disappeared and never came back after doing a firmware upgrade. The #27 error appeared around midnight, after working OK for 1 month. Grounding is up to spec, each string has SPD installed. Charger is connected with 2x50 mm2 cable to main busbar. (and fused appropriately)
my customer runs an off grid hotel and relies on this charger for both electric vehicle charging as well as serving his guests. since the error is so intermittent i am hoping to be able to fix this remote through software? Am I dreaming? It is a far away site, and due to cost i don’t carry spares of this charger in stock. Sending the unit back to victron through my dealer is an option but comes with lots of headaches so hoping to reach out here and see what is possible. I had read previously that going to 1.16 version of firmware would undo this error see here. however that is so far back, i really rather not do this.
If the rest of the installation is healthy, the battery isn’t disconnecting, then chances are you need to RMA the charger.
Not something that can be diagnosed remotely, nor via the internet.
If there was an obvious software issue, it would be addressed by now.
Can you give me more information? Or could I have a look at the system? Personally, I don’t think it’s the MPPT, but rather, for example, a power surge. Which batteries do you have? Could it be that one of the BMSs briefly goes into sleep mode? Or that large appliances are switching on?
Here is some more info:
the batteries are 8 x Weco 5k0LT with 3 x Quattro 8000 VA.
Do you think it reacts to a sudden increase or decrease in DC current to the inverters? What makes you think that that is the more likely answer? The unit has also shown a #200 together with the #27 when i first commissioned it. but that was resolved with a firmware update… (FYI)
I could give you access or send you the CSV of the last days. Let me know what you prefer. Thanks a lot for the help.
This condition indicates an over-current condition on the battery side. It can occur when a battery is attached to the unit using a contactor. Or in case the charger starts up without a battery connected but connected to an inverter that has a large input capacitance.
This error will auto-reset. If the error does not auto-reset disconnect the charge controller from all power-sources, wait 3 minutes, and power up again. If the error persists the charge controller is probably faulty
Because this is intermittent it will be difficult to diagnose.
Check your battery contactor is not opening in certain conditions.
i have a #200 also now since this morning. turning charge function on and off clears it in victron connect, but i cant keep it at the customer for much longer. Can anybody here tell me if victron is likely to replace the unit or repair it? it changes how i proceed with the RMA. Thanks a lot i really appreciate any insight
If your customer depends on the system (hotels and restaurants are critical!), I’d send a preconfigured replacement unit on its way now, so that the controller could be replaced immediately!
It’s your reputation, after all. I know several restaurant owners who even keep replacement dishwashers in the basement so they don’t have to close the kitchen on day X (one costing €3,000 in service, plus another €3,000 sitting in the basement on standby).
