Hi, I have a MPPT controller from my solar panels on my caravan to my batteries 2 x Gel 100 ah batteries. I would like to connect 2 x 120 ah lithium batteries. The MPPT is Lithium compatible and has an option to select Lithium.
With the current system I have I can’t locate a DC to DC charger which is a puzzle as I would have thought a DC to DC charger would be necessary.
Thanks for your response and info.
Yes I want to replace the gel batteries with lithium.
My last trip off grid we got caught with some cloud cover days and didn’t get much out of 200ah batteries.
Lithium have a lot more advantages with regards to this example I have been told.
Being a novice with solar I have been told I need a DC to DC charger that regulates the parameters as you have mentioned. I just want longer life out of my solar system at the end of the day.
All I run off grid is lights, fridge (95l) water pump, radio, TV sometimes.
I figured MPPT to DCtoDC to batteries for wiring.
Your thoughts.
Regards
Victron mppt has pre set paramitors for lithium battery charging or can be manually set up, so no need for DC to DC charger.
Mppt is a DC to DC charger, it takes DC from solar panels and converts to as set DC parameters to be used / charge batteries.
Simply look at what battery charging parameters are required and set mppt accordingly. User guides / manuals available on line.
Thanks so much for your help and info on this subject that I am getting to know.
I’ll take this all onboard and enjoy my off grid camping so much more.
Regards
