I have an MPPT 75/15, and 80Ahr LiPO4 battery bank at a remote site.
The MPPT75/15 has an internal temp sensor for voltage compensation.
The configuration menu includes the selection to not charge batteries below certain temperatures.
But it says I need to set up a BMV and battery temp sensor to use this option.
Can’t this option be configured to just use the temp sensor within the MPPT 75/15 ?
You will need a Smart Battery Sense if you want to use that. Unless you have a victron smart bms. You will need to set up a VE network and the charger will get the voltage and temp from the Smart Battery Sense over Bluetooth.
I monitor the battery temperature of my LiFePo batteries using a hard-wired temperature probe, this is connected to my Cerbo GX.
I then use Node-Red to check the temperature and and this triggers a relay to switch off the MPPT charger when the temperature is < 5C.
If you don’t have a Cerbo GX, use a Raspberry Pi, either running Home Assistant, with the Node-Red add-on installed, or load Venus OS onto it,.
One word or warning I can’t get the Venus managed relays to work on my PI’s relay circuit with GUI V2 as I have had to remove GuiMods, I have not worked out the GPIOs Venus uses yet.
The Ruuvi devices work well as temperature sensors.
