Hi, I have a victron ESS with 3 multplus in a 3 phase configuration, a grid meter, all load is connected to the essential output of the multi’s as well as a PV inverter, singel phase, 4000Wp solar, with his own PV AC meter connected to the cerbo. A lithium batterypack of 10kWh.
The problem I have is that I want to limit the AC grid power consumption to a max of 2500W over the 3 phases in total. The reason for this is that the local grid authoraty is billing almost 50% of all grid cost to a peak energy tarif per month. The minimal is 2500W.
Back to the question, I can set a max grid current per phase of 3,6A this would give a total of around 2500W if no solar production. The problem I see now is that as soon as solar kicks in on one phase the total engergy from the grid is lowered to meet the 3,6A on the phases.
what I would like is a max grid of 2500W regardless if the inverter is delivering solar power.
Hi Björn, thanks for your mail answer. That’s what I’m using, but for some reason the current from the grid where my PV system is installed is not taken into account for the max current.
On the picture below, you can see the phase L1 has 2,6A input, ( i would expect the max 6A) the output of the inverter on phase L1 is -4A, so the total current that is uses for charging the battery is 6,6A. The current on L2 and L3 is about the same. 5,6 - 0,2=5,4 A. The average of all 3 phase currrent to charge the battery is 5,8 A so close to 6 A.
At Victron Professional I found a link to “ESS design and installation manual” stating ESS disables power shaving on page 10:

• Input current-limiter setting - The configured limit is used as the threshold for AC current at the AC-in of the Multi/Quattro. Fur-
ther notice that:
• Loads in parallel with the Multi/Quattro are not taken into account: therefore, install all loads on the AC-out of the Multi or
Quattro in systems that require AC Input Current limiter functionality. For example - systems with a small AC load connected.
• The current limiter will be used for both directions of the current.
• The PowerAssist setting in VEConfigure3 will be disabled and ignored when ESS is installed.
• The Dynamic current limiter in VEConfigure3 will be disabled and ignored when ESS is installed.

I would appreciate if the current limit could be used as highest priority hard limit per phase in conjunction with ESS and using external meter.
