Is there a larger issue at play here: DESS broken?

I’m looking around the forum and it seems regardless of the version being used there is many more reports of DESS being ‘broken’ for users.
From my own experience, it doesn’t matter if you’re on a fixed tariff (i.e manually input the tariff costs) or dynamic tariff it appears to be broken.

Could we get some feedback from Victron about this, to see if they are aware of the issue. Just need to know you can see the issues as well from the posts being created.

Thanks

DESS - I have tried turning it on several times (Octopus Go tariff in the UK)

Each time it has done something (charge from the grid) that actually costs more money

I asked a similar question last year. Simply this “Anyone successfully using Octopus GO and DESS?”. It’s obviously a UK related question.

So far, no one has answered in the positive. I am excluding solutions that require a ‘hack’ to the Victron source. I don’t want to go that route, simply because I don’t have the time or skills!

So, it’s a fair question to direct towards Victron - is the system stable and predictable enough for use by customers in the way that ESS is being used?

My own experience with a very simple setup (Green mode, no export, fixed two price tariff) suggests it isn’t working in any predictable, logical fashion that is intended to minimise cost.

It would be interesting to hear from the Victron experts, because I believe the system has value even for simple setups. Yet every time I do switch it on, the behaviour of the system defies any logic that I can understand.
