Is the Orion XS killing my battery?

Hello,

I’m new to the Victron system. My question is when my solar, main switch and van are all off the Orion XS is still on. But shouldn’t that be off as well? And my chassis battery for my van is dead every 4 days. (Parked and not starting it while finishing the build). Is the Orion XS drawing from my chassis battery? Orion is set with the engine shutdown on/ charger.

Thanks

Kid

Have you checked with VictronConnect if the Orion actually detects the engine being stopped or not?

When Van is off.

When Van is on.

When Van is off.

This last screen shot is shore power disconnected, solar off, main switch off and Van off. But, the Orion XS is still on. Shouldn’t this device also be offline from my devices since everything is off? All other devices are offline. Is it pulling power from the chassis battery?

I doubt it is the Orion draining your battery as the stanby current drain is <1.5ma 144ma in 4 days. Do a load test on your starter battery and see if the CCA is holding up, might have a faulty cell causing self discharge.

Depends on where the main switch is located. But i guess that only cuts the auxiliary battery.

When either side of the Orion has power, then the internals are powered.

But i also doubt that the Orion is the (main) issue here, its detecting the engine shut off correctly, so power draw is very minute.

You said parked while finishing the build. Do you leave the doors open, or open and close them regularly? Even with the interior light turned off, if your car is somewhat modern, it will have some body control module(s), those might be powered up while the doors are open, and only go into deep standby once the car was locked.

I suggest to look for a phantom power draw. Use a multimeter on current mode inline with either the main positive or negative wire of the starter battery. If it takes four days to drain the battery then i assume a current of about 0.5A is flowing constantly. Remove one fuse at a time and observe which one causes the current draw to drop. From there continue to measure individual devices on that fuse until youve found the culprit

Thanks Alf. I’ll do that test and see what I get.

Thanks. It’s a 2023 Promaster. I have been leaving the doors open while working on the van. I read that should be ok to leave the doors open. Could that be drawing a lot from the battery? I’ll also do those test you recommended and see what I get thanks.
