Hi,
Has anyone any experience with combining an Orion XS 1400 with an existing system using Orion TR Smart DC-DC chargers?
My existing system (built pre- Orion XS1400 release) has 4 x Orion Tr DC-DC 12/24 15A units in parallel, converting Alternator output via the engine start battery from 12VDC to 24VDC, charging into 3 x 200Ah 24VDC Victron Smart batteries (with VE.Bus BMS V2 etc etc)
The existing 120A alternator is on it’s way out, so I am looking at replacing with a High Output unit (+/-170A) which will give me enough theoretical output to add an Orion XS1400 and up the charge from the +/- 55A (24VDC) I was seeing to +/-85A (24VDC) as opposed to adding another Orion Tr Smart unit.
I know I will need to upgrade all cabling, fuses etc, but wanted to know if anyone has experience of this or if anyone with in-depth knowledge can shed light on this.
I have read the manuals, but they only mention the same units being in parallel, and I don’t really want to spend on 3 x Orion XS1400 and replace what I already have, but the efficiency of the unit is attractive (Orion TR given at 88% versus Orion XS given at around 98%) hence wanting to add it into the system.
Thanks in advance
