I have a multi-pass dual inverter system which has a automatic transfer switch in between the inverters and my breaker panel switching between shore power and the inverter power.
This ATS is defective now causing intermittent problems where the breaker panel gets no power from any source.
my question is I don’t understand why this device is even needed in the system it seems that the shore power should go directly to the inverters, which I believe have their own pass-through mode.
This is on a motorhome and there is the original installed automatic transfer switch which will switch between the generator and shore power then feeding into the inverters. So it really seems like this additional ATS is redundant?
Or is there some reason this ATS is required to switch in between shore power and the inverter power when shore power is connected?
The transfer switch is important to ensure you can still switch between shore or the inverter supply were e.g. the inverter to fail.
