I’ve ran into the first issue I don’t know how to fix myself

I have two 100/50 smart controllers connected to three 100Ah batteries with the IP65 Smartshunt.

Each controller is fed by two 250W and one 300W panels. All wired in parallel.

Today I noticed for the first time that one controller was pulling 5W and the other 450. I reset the 5W controller by killing the solar input and then disconnecting it from the battery bank and it came back on at 0W.

I then went into the working controller and it gave me a #66 communication warning, meaning it’s trying to charge in parallel with another controller that has different charge settings. I checked all settings and everything matched exactly. Then I noticed they were all setup on VE smart Networking which I never setup before.

I removed both controllers from VE smart network, reset both, and now the #66 warning is gone but I still am showing 0W input to that one controller. What should I check next?

Check the connection of the first MPPT towards the battery. Its battery voltage is much higher than the other two, so likely theres a loose conenction or a blown fuse

As for the VE.Smart networking, thats not an automatic feature. Someone has to deliberately set up one. If it wasnt you, then it was someone else. Change device passwords if in doubt.

One mppt is reading 14.38v, and this is different to what the other mppt and shunt is showing ~13.5v.

Confirm voltages and rectify bad connection or blown fuse as first step.

Whatcha bet this caused it.

All wires are slightly oversized but with proper breakers and switches with solid tight connections, why would this happen?

Any reasons for this to burn out? Should I contact Victron? Controller is a year old

Melted insulation like that is usually caused by the clamping screw being too loose. Once it is loose it has a high resistance and causes heat, which relaxes the terminal, which increases the resistance creating more heat, death spiral. Soon after commissioning and routinely on vehicles and boats all terminals need checking for tightness.

btw, this is typically not a warranty issue, this is down to the install and maintenance.
