I have a Quattro 48/5000/70-2x100 120V connected to a SmartSolar Charger MPPT 150/45 and 2xSOK 48Vx100Ah LifePO4 batteries in a travel trailer. It powers a 50A AC panel and an Orion-tr 48/12-30 for DC. Brain is CerboGX. All at latest software. Config settings of Quattro shown below. Trailer divided into “mechanical room” and living space.
System has been functioning without significant issue for almost 1.5 years.
Situation: 6 inches of snow…so no solar. Quattro is connected to shore power. “Conditional AC Input connection” set to turn on shore power when battery reaches 25% (i.e., when there is no solar for whatever reason). I have a space heater in trailer mechanical room because while insulated, it is not as well insulated as cabin part. Cerbo turns on space heater when temp below 40F (4C) to keep water and batteries from freezing.
Shore power is connected to 20A home circuit with 15A input limit. When ON shore power usually pulls around 1600W (13.5A@120). Last night it was very cold here, 0F (-16C). Both the cabin heater and mech room space heater were running. Usually the shore power can provide the 1200W for the two heaters and still have 400 or so for charging the batteries so all good.
LAST NIGHT, AT SOME POINT, input power dropped to 700W. Quattro went into PowerAssist mode to help provide enough power for heaters. Battery SOC dropped very low (<10%) before I intervened. I checked all the breakers, wiring, outlets, etc. No issues. I reset the power switch on Quattro and it came back to ~1600W input power from shore. Later in the night it happened again. I then set the Input current limit to 18A (since it’s actually on a 20A home circuit) and system has been pulling about 16.5A (1959W) since and seems happy.
WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE INPUT CURRENT TO DROP IN HALF??
Ran across this thread while researching conditional AC input. Can you tell me what you were using to look at settings when you took those screenshots? My MP-II doesn’t have a way to see them like that as far as I can see.
Your post was helpful to me in answering that both load and SOC can be used to turn AC on/off. I’m still concerned about having issues like you did, so I haven’t gone down this road yet. I am off-grid mostly, and not usually on metered shore power where I need to bother. But, occasionally I “moochdock” on friends power, and would like to use solar vice their grid when possible.
I still don’t quite understand what happened but haven’t noticed it since. I think it happens when load exceeds available shore power such that battery assist comes on. It use battery assist fully and lowers the shore power down proportionally.
I try to keep my camper off grid but I “moochdock” off my house when it’s particularly cold or cloudy for a few days.
I’ve had similar issues on a similar setup. Quattro and Multi Compact both no longer ignoring AC - #7 by Starcruiser
Happened on both a Quattro setup and a multi compact.
Solution so far is to remove all assistants and start afresh. I’ve also elected to utilise the Cerbo to switch the Quattro via relay2 using Node Red and a wired link to the temp input on the Quattro.
