Grid metering - is it possible to use 1 grid meter for 2x ESS steering?

Hi there,

We have installed 2x ESS on a single grid connection, and would like to install one (or two) grid meter(s) so both ESS can respond to the grid meters values. E.g. charge when excess solar, and discharge when consumption is high. Should we install two grid meters and assign one to ESS1 and one to ESS2? If so, which grid meters should we use?

Thanks so much!

Cheers, Maarten

Hi 2x ET112 is the cheapest option, but they are not fast

Other option is the VM-3P75CT or EM540

Hi,

Having two systems try and keep the same grid connection to zero, either by installing one or two meters - doesn’t make it different, will likely result in an unstable system. Ie. swinging up and down in charging and discharging/buying and selling.

Yes you are absolutly right… i didnt think of that :grimacing:

:+1:

I run 2x ESS 1x grid meter using a shelly 3EM. They love it and work well. The response to high load is fast. I have a 12v and 48v ess. Only thing you need to do is set the charge current to zero overnight using node-red or one will charge from the other. If you have some logic experience and dev experience it’s very easy. I have tons of solar so I don’t need the internal charger that often. Maybe once a year if there are days of rain and clouds. I have about 50kwh of battery storage.
