Generator settings on off grid system

@JohnC
Hi again. I have Victron Connect and according to the recommended settings by Victron on the MPPT is battery voltage to 48V (I have done this) and Absorption voltage to 52v. I cant seem to change this (set at 56.8v) as it is grayed out.

Please also see these changes:

Another question I need to ask:
While I’m testing the gen-set, I’m not earthing it. I plan to do this once I have figured out my all my settings. Has this any contributing factors to the functionality of the MP2?

Many thanks John

In VConnect/mppt you have Rotary Switch selected. There’s actually a preset for Pylontech in there, so use that instead, the work done for you.

In the Multi I’d disable the Battery Monitor. The last thing you need is that interfering with anything else in your system. Shouldn’t happen, but ya never know. An example of something that shouldn’t happen but does is the Temp sensor that comes with the Multi. The Pylons have their own, so I repurposed mine to show an ambient reading, but it still gets reported by GUI and VRM as Battery Temp, ignoring the Pylon readings. A bug I’ve reported, but it remains.

I don’t much like answering Earthing questions because it can get quite involved. You have Ground Relay checked by default in the Multi (that’s your AC Neutral/Earth link), so definitely ground the Multi. What you do with the genset may depend on what you already have at the genset.

@JohnC
I had a look and didn’t see the pylon preset, here’s the screenshots. BTW all equipment has updated firmware.

Should I do the user defined?

Multi is grounded, has been from the onset of the installation. Even though you mentioned that you don’t like to answer earthing questions, I’ll send you a diagram of my earthing (I could have over engineer it, I tend to do this)

Thanks again

I can’t explain why you don’t see the Pylon preset…

Maybe a newer version of VConnect, or it might show up only when the Pylons are set up right. I don’t know, anyone else?? The V’s there are default, so you could use them on User Defined if you’re stuck.

Thank you, I will try it as I’ve never seen the system go into float mode even though the batteries can charge up to 100%

@JohnC
Hi John, I was at my wits end trying to get my genset to charge my batteries through the MP2 during unusual 4 no sun days. Lots of reading and checking other peoples’ similar challenges on the community.
Eventually I got it right by doing a several things trying to eliminate all possible causes including thicker cabling from the gen-set etc. etc.
What finally did work as my last resort regarding the settings was to enable “Weak AC Input”.
You mentioned earlier that this was not the most desirable thing to do, however, since I only use the genset for charging batteries when we have no sun for some days (this is not common on my side of the woods) I guess I’ll have to live with it.
Silly question, I guess that this setting is for charging only, so it will not otherwise interfere with anything else under normal operation/solar charging etc.??? Or do I change it back when I’m done with the genset?

Thanks in advance.
As I mentioned before, (even though you mentioned that you don’t like answering earthing questions) I’m attaching a diagram of my earth system for your perusal.

Thanks again

If you haven’t already, you could try these settings too…

But if you’re stuck with the Weak AC setting then so be it. You can leave it there, it only comes into play while the genset runs.

Re the earthing, that diagram is fine. Don’t earth the PV wires, just the module frames.

Happy New Year…

@JohnC

Hi John, I have those settings in place.
Thanks for all you feedback and assistance. Much appreciated.

Have an awesome New Year!

Hi John I have the Latest version of Victron connect & my MPPT 250/100 V1.64 There is NO settings for Pylontech
However it is BMS controlled what version are you running Android or OS ?
