Generator Run time

The accumulated run time of a generator is completely wrong. With my system using a Multiplus II and an auto start generator, the accumulated run time is actually showing the amount of time from when the generator is sent the signal to start until it sends the signal to stop. This is a major discrepancy. There are numerous times that the generator does not actually start and the system errors out but the run time meter is actually running. Instead the run time meter should only start when it detects the voltage coming from the generator (or outside electricity) and should stop when there is no longer an outside energy source. This would be a great tool if it were programmed to do that. As of right now it is a useless piece of information. Thanks

Hi Brett,

many generators have an integrated operating hours counter. Alternatively, you can also install one in the distribution board. There are some in the size of a circuit breaker. This always shows the correct operating hours.

The operating hours in the Cerbo can be lost too quickly and then nobody knows how many hours the generator has on it and when the next maintenance is due

Yes that is true. I do have a counter connected to see my actual operating hours on the generator. However, this system is installed at our cabin that we do not live there so I’m at the disadvantage of being able to constantly monitor it. If the Acc. run time on the VRM was actually correct from the counter monitoring the External power input, then we could have accurate results. Making a simple change in the programming to do that instead would greatly benefit most customers who have an auto start generator.
