ESS, Mode 3, smart BMS

I have a system with ESS, Seplos batteries and ve.can SmartSolar MPPT. Everything works great - batteries are communicating with Cerbo, charging is controlled by DVCC and MultiPlus does its thing.

I would like to put the system into Passthrough mode at times. The reason for that is that I often do not need Multis to be inverting and I assumed that them being in passthrough would be the most efficient (is this assumption even correct?). I was planning to achieve this with Mode 3 and not writing the setpoint registers. Is there another way to force system into passthrough?

The problem that I encoutered is that as soon as I switch to Mode 3/External control Cerbo stops sending BMS data to MPPT and it stops charging. My understanding is that there are two options: 1) I implement my own control loop for MPPT charging or 2) I disconnect MPPT from Cerbo to force it to run its own charge algo. Is this correct? How tricky would it be to implement my own control of MPPT?

I did not find that problem with my mode 3 experiments.
Regarding the pass-thru mode, I found that with Mode 1 it was necessary to switch the inverter to ‘off’ or to ‘invert only’ to stop it charging the battery from the grid. possibly due to something not being set quite right.
