It already does! Have you read the DESS Manual?
I have read the manual and can see that DESS supports dynamic spot prices.
But in Denmark, we have tariffs that vary over the day.
00:00–06:00 - €0.019
06:00–17:00 - €0.058
17:00–21:00 - €0.173
21:00–24:00 - €0.058
So our tariff is not a fixed factor that I can add to the spot price, but it varies over the day.
From the manual:
Blockquote
Then, you can fill out the price per hour (more granularity is currently not possible).
I assume kent2ben means that they have a variable grid fee in addition to the variable spot price. This is not currently supported by DESS as you are not able to make a formula with time variability for dynamic pricing.
Correct
Poland same thing, the grid fee varies depending if it’s night or weekend even with dynamic pricing
however usually the lower grid fees coincide with the lower P anyway but not always (from 00h to 06h)
I have same problem also in Denmark. For know DESS is really not usable for us.
Could be nice to have an option to make multiple formulars, depending on the time of the day.
Here we have a vinter tarif (Fixed transport price) like Kent2ben says
00:00–06:00 - €0.019
06:00–17:00 - €0.058
17:00–21:00 - €0.173
21:00–24:00 - €0.058
Anyone have any ideas for how to take this into account.
I think Victron needs to take another look at this. It needs a time and day of the week flexible factor in the price formula. Actually, this shouldn’t be such a big problem. But I’m a bit surprised that no one from Victron is commenting on this at the moment.
Perhaps I don’t understand. But if these 4 prices are the same every day, you can put it in DESS like this:
Hi
The “buy prices” are set on an hourly basis and fluctuate every hour, day, week…
So the buy prices are not the same every day.
Only the tarifs or fees are the same every day. So if I can set the fees in the screenshot that @Ton_Gans shows and it gets added to the price it would be perfect.
Make sense ?
This applies to fixed prices and is good and right. However, we are talking about dynamic day-ahead prices in connection with different network fees at different times
I know it is possible using Node-RED implementation of DESS, I am waiting for this feature almost half a year.
" Dynamically change formula’s
If you need to dynamically alter your formula’s, you can do that by injecting msg.buy_price_formula
and msg.sell_price_formula
into the Dynamic ESS node. While this can be used when you have different fees during certain hours of the day, do note that it is a bit crude, as the system will calculate all the hours with this new formula. For fixed pricing, the implementation in VRM is definitely the better option.
Import the dynamically-alter-buy-formula flow for an example on how to use this functionality."
For countries where “distribution fees” differ for each hour or sets of hours we need to have different Dynamic price “p” formulas for each hour. I cant understand, why this had not beed implemented yet. Price difference can be significant based on these fees in addition to dynamic price difference.
Hello. I’m also from Denmark, and I don’t think it makes sense that everyone has to make special configuration to make the electric price to match. I am going from a home assistant setup where I did this and had to change the tariffs when going from summer to vinter and back again every year. That the prices is correct must be a core feature, to make the system work, and should not be up to the end user.
I have read somewhere that it is possible with Node-red. Are there anyone who have tried that ?
In Germany we are getting time-based network fees in 2025.
The network fee has three levels: low, normal, high.
the network operator defines for the whole year for every hour of a day which tarif applies.
In Hamburg the ffes are appr.
The time based network fees can be combined with fixed energy tariffs, time-based tarifs and with spot market prices like tibber.
I would appriciate if victron could include a variable into the spot market price formular, where the variable is defined by a schedule.
Similar tariffs already exist in Denmark and other European countries. As mentioned above. The phenomenon is not limited to Germany alone
Maybe we should consider the cheaper Growatt system.
They do have this option in the AI Battery module.
I hope Victron soon update the DESS…DESS is worthless for many if these settings are not possible.
Is it possible to do the same with the integrated DESS?
Will it work if the DESS is turned off in the VRM and then adding the DESS based on Nodered?
