Subject says it all. Maybe I’m missing something?

Common mistake. Those values are only for calculating in DESS. To max charge/discharge you have to change CCL (charge current limit) and DCL (discharge current limit).
Ton is right. When configuring Dynamic ESS you are only setting the capabilities, not actually setting limits for the system to use. See here for info on setting limits for the system.
Thanks for answer.
Do current limits apply only to Victron inverters or these are currents of the main breaker?
This is the limit you want the multiplus to obey.
It doesn’t have to be as high as your main breaker supports, but obviously should not be larger than that, unless you want to have it tripping under heavy load.
Sorry to jump on a thread but I’m also getting a little confused by the maximum charge/discharge settings in DESS.
My set up is
12kw solar array (22panels)
10kva Quattro
450-200 rs mppt
4x pylontech us5000 batteries
I have both max charge and discharge currently set to 8kw as that is what my inverter is rated too. I’m confused if it’s asking what my batteries can handle, my inverter can charge At or what my mppt can charge at???
It is basically asking for what the REAL flow to or from the battery can be.
So, for discharging, it’s the smaller of your battery capability and inverter capability.
For charging, it’s the smaller of your battery capability and inverter+mppt capability.
But these values are just important for the schedule that is created. If you set lower rates, DESS will create a schedule with less steep charging curves, that’s basically all.
If you set too high rates, your system would hunt a schedule-goal and never could reach it “in time” - that is less ideal, requires frequent recalculations.
I personally also just use 8kW on either rate despite my battery / system could do 14kW. (Don’t want to have everything running at the limit, just to save some cents )
Thank you for your reply, I wish Victron could explain it like that! I’ve been pleased with how it has been running just always wondered if I had it right
