Despite current to and from Orion Smart DC to DC charger, no lights or bluetooth connection

Make me a drawing of your configuration, maybe then I’ll understand.

You have 24v on the output of the 48/24 unit.

And this should be connected to the input of the isolated 24/24 ?

Attached are a couple photos of the converter / charger / converter units and a drawing of the set up. Please let me know if there is any additional information you need. Thanks.

Peter

Here is the sequence of fixtures for the + wire:48v battery bank
fuse
48v to 24v DC to DC converter
fuse
24v charger
fuse
24v battery bank
fuse
24v bus bar
fuse
24v to 12v converter
fuse
12v bus bar

48 volts comes in from the fuse of the 48v battery bank to the input of the 48v to 24v converter.
The output on the 48v to 24v converter is connected to a fuse which is connected to the input of the 24v charger.
The output on the 24v charger is connected to the 24v battery bank.
The 24v batterybank is connected to the 24v busbar.
24v busbar is connected to the input of the 24v to 12 v converter

Sequence for negative/- wires:

48v is connected to the input of the 48 to 24v converter.
The output of the 48 to 24v converter is connected to the input of the 24v charger.
The output of the 24v charger is connected to the negative bus bar.
The 24v negative busbar is connected to the negative pole of the 24v battery bank.

Ok, so the problem is between the 24v battery bank and the 24/12 charger ?

Then it should be fairly easy to find with a testlight or multimeter.

Or just replace the wiring for plus and minus…

There is NO power (meaning the 50watt bulb doesn’t light up) at the output of the 48v to 24v converter and at the input of the 24v charger, which are connected to each other.

There IS power at the output of the 24v charger but not at the input, as mentioned above. I would say that the problem is NOT between the 24v charger and the 24v battery bank but IS between the 48v to 24v converter output and the 24v charger input.

For some reason there is no power coming out of the 48v to 24v converter which means no power going into the 24v charger. Maybe the 48v to 24v converter is bad, because there is no power coming out of it, but the green light is on on that unit. Can that happen even when there is no power coming out of it?

Thanks very much,

Peter

That you check directly on the screws of the converter ?

So the wire from the negative output to the negative busbar is awol.

When I connect the light to the output positive and negative terminals of the 48v to 24v converter the light comes on. When I connect the negative lead to the busbar, instead of the output negative terminal, the light does NOT come on.

The negative wire from the 48v to 24v converter is connected to the negative input terminal on the 24v charger. The wire from the negative output of the 24v charger IS connected to the 24v busbar. There are no awol wires that I can find.

And the positive wires ?

Same. Connected to their respective positive terminals.

Ok, but you write you have 24v on the output of the 48/24 unit, but no voltage at the 24v charger, but plus and minus are connected ?

Sorry, i can’t help you…

You don’t have it right yet. I get NO power (ie: light does not go on) at the 48v to 24v output terminal and at the 24v charger input terminal, which is coming from the 48v to 24v converter output. IF you cannot help me where do I get help from Victron? THanks for all your help so far. I appreciate it.

Sorry but you are giving me incoherent information.

Ok. This is one of the downsides of this kind of troubleshooting with words, and multiple of devices, and connections both in and out. Can get confusing with multiple of emails. Thought I was being clear and I sent diagrams and photos, but guess not. I’ll call the local distributor. Thanks for trying.
