Cristec Chargers with Victron BMS

Hey, we are currently looking at upgrading our AGM set up to the picture below.

We are waiting to hear back from cristec that our Hpower 12/90 can be adjusted to meet the victron needs of absorption voltage 14.2 - for 2 hours and 13.5 float voltage. The Cristec have a Lithium profile but it’s 14.4 and 13.8. so in theory if we can get it adjusted as they say can be done, this should be okay?

Is it possible to use non victron battery chargers with the victron set up. (as these are already installed and quite good chargers, seems a waste to get rid of them)

Cheers

If you have to take power from a source with an unknown or unreliable charging algorithm, or unknown or unreliable voltage levels, the safe method is to run it through an orion DCDC - that way;

  • The GX will have control over it, and be able to tone it down or stop it if the batteries can’t/won’t/shouldn’t be being charged
  • The voltage will be perfect, and can be adjusted
  • The algorithm will be in sync with other supplying devices such as MPPTs and such

Thanks for your response, The cristec charger does have a remote on/off port which the Victron BMS ATC can be connected to so that should handle the shut off side of it. Seems like if we were to add in the Orians, we are reducing out charging capacity and may be better off (financially also) replacing with something like a Multiplus or other victron stand alone charger.

You can put as many orions in parallel as you need, its common to see banks of them.
But yeah, a multiplus is capable of a whole lot of charging.
