Sorry and thank you in advance. I’ve tried to read the documentation and i’ve installed the app and connected to the charger but for the amount of sense it makes to me it may as well be in Klingon, i’ve never understood how electrickery or internal combustion motors work (and I also have a brain injury that makes learning new things difficult) so…
2.0l 53 reg diesel Mondeo with a completely flat battery unused for about a year so battery is probably unrecoverable but the bank manager is hoping it isn’t.
Our engineer finally got the bonnet open attempted to jump it using his NOCO but it wouldn’t even turn on the electrics so in a last ditch effort to avoid buying a new battery we’ve borrowed a BSC IP65 12/10, plugged it into the outdoor socket and connected it to the car battery (I’m pretty sure it’s correctly set up physically).
I’m bright enough to know that this isn’t a LION battery, it’s lead acid, so I selected normal+recon as that seemed logical, is this correct?
If the NOCO jump starter didn’t work, I think it’s a fairly safe bet the battery is past recovery!
I see you have already downloaded the Victron connect app, so this should show you if the battery is accepting a charge. If it’s charging, the current will eventually start to decrease and the charger will go into absorption and eventually float. It could take many hours though if the battery has been flat for a long time
Make sure everything on the car is turned off - eg all doors are closed, lights are off, all accessories off. Otherwise the charger might be trying to power all that stuff instead of just trying to charge the battery. Nothing plugged into the lighter socket.
If everything is perfect, the battery charger will go from Bulk to Aborption to Float stage. If nothing has changed after 7-10 hours from when you hooked up the charger, the battery is hopeless and must be replaced.
The internal lights and lighter socket haven’t worked for years LOL, this old lady is held together with gaffer tape and a wooden spoon (literally a wooden spoon holding the glove box closed) and is permanently hot wired because the ignition can’t be replaced (the penalty of buying an ex demo new model is they haven’t ironed out a lot of bugs) but there’s under 100k on the clock and the engine has at least 50k in it so until then bodywork falls off i’ll keep her limping on.
